Experience the wonder of motion mechanics first-hand with the UGears Combine harvester model kit. This model provides a world-class example of motion mechanics and is perfect for demonstrating the basics of machine movement and how energy can be transferred between objects to produce the function of an engine.

Building mechanical models is a great way to exercise your head and hands. Model kits are often used to help enhance hand-eye coordination, patience, teleological thinking, and an understanding of the physics and mechanics involved in the model being built. We carefully design all of our moving models to operate using simple, real-life mechanical principles which the builder can observe and appreciate both while building the model and while watching it run after it's been finished.

A combine harvester is an intricate machine that is so-called because it "combines" three different parts of harvesting crops into one machine: reaping, threshing, and winnowing. Before the combine harvester, harvesting crops was an exhausting and time-consuming practice that could take huge groups of people days or weeks of hard work just to pick the crops, to say nothing of processing them into food or material for commercial use.

The earliest combine harvesters emerged in the 1820s, two whole centuries ago! These first harvesters were drawn by mules, oxen, or other livestock. When steam engines started to make a splash, it wasn't long before steam-powered engines were incorporated into the combine harvester designs. These harvesters were much more expensive and bulky, though, so many farmers stuck with livestock-driven harvesters. That all started to change with the advent of the internal combustion engine around the turn of the 20th century, and it wouldn't be long until the gas or diesel-driven combine harvester we all know today became the gold standard for crop harvesting.

Don't worry about gas or coal, costs, though; the UGears Combine harvester model kit is set in motion by a rubber-band motor! Roll the model backward to power the motor up, release the handbrake, and watch it go! Watch your model head for the fields with its spinning wheels and rotating cutter board just like a real combine harvester would.

The finished model also has a hidden compartment that can be opened up with a lever which is located to the left of the driver’s cabin. This compartment can be used as storage for personal tidbits or spare parts. This lever also functions as a brake to lock or run the harvester.

The UGears Combine harvester model has 154 high-quality precision-cut plywood parts. The estimated time of assembly for the model is about 2-3 hours. All 154 parts are carefully cut from strong plywood boards using a high-accuracy laser cutting method to ensure quality and reliability. Rated at intermediate difficulty, this model is suitable for ages 14 and up.
